The spring is to get out there and NxtWork is doing just that. We are welcoming new members–more on that soon! We have grown our footprint with collaborations with two talent acquisition firms to provide increased access to board opportunities and referrals. Still, while talent acquisition firms play an invaluable role in the process, they only cover about 7% of total board searches. Word-of-mouth and personal connections are still the primary channels for the majority of board searches. NxtWork expands your personal network by joining forces with many other talented women. This is why we think of NxtWork as a force multiplier.
Force Multiplier Tip: A “board campaign” is a good way to get the word out that you are interested in and ready for board service. Consider systematizing your outreach by setting goals and keeping track of your progress (this format, which you can borrow, is what Dominique uses to keep track of her own board campaign). Katherine Jafroodi’s latest article demystifies the board selection process for untraditional candidates and provides many useful suggestions.
