After a decade of successful litigation, Seema concentrated her practice on in-house risk management, launching and managing legal departments from the ground-up and focusing on company growth opportunities as a leader in joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions. With an affinity for operations, she became a key stakeholder in the streamlining, internalization and oversight of healthcare services; and with her experience across different countries, states and industries, became an effective negotiator and advocate in providing practical business solutions in government, regulatory and corporate matters. As a professional athlete, Seema travelled the world as a national team member and motivational speaker. She has leveraged these skills to provide innovative and tactical legal advice in response to industry, financial and environmental challenges.

Seema is a change maker, who quickly pivots to evolving business demands.  As V.P., Corporate Counsel to the nation’s largest not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center, she led the following efforts within 20 months of joining the company:

In response to COVID-19: responsible for all contracting, regulatory and policy & procedure development to convert eligible employees to a remote work environment; supported the transformation from exclusive in-person visits to company’s first-ever telemedicine model of care; implemented LA County’s first COVID-19 drive-through testing center (total 10) that serviced 40,000+ Californians
Internalized company’s pharmacy services, including licensing and contracting for 11 pharmacies
As Compliance Officer and Legal Advisor, directed communications and filings with the Department of Managed Health Care to facilitate the January 1, 2019 “go-live” of company’s first-ever Restricted Knox-Keene (RKK) which manages the healthcare of over 70,000 lives
Completed transaction for company’s first-ever Management Services Organization (MSO), a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary, and its operational “go-live” July 1, 2020

Trusted Advisor

Seema has served in various capacities for over 25 years on both for-profit and not-for-profit boards in healthcare, sports, education and youth-oriented organizations. She has been an advisor and/or member of Hospital, Governing and Company Boards as well as advocacy and Patient Rights/Bioethics committees.  She is the current Chair of the Healthcare Law Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and an active member in over a dozen organizations.
