Undeniable progress has been made since 1865, but even 158 years after the emancipation of African American slaves in the US we are still far from the objective of true racial equality in many domains of society. Corporate leadership is not an exception. According to recent data, only 8% of C-suite executives are black and African American executives hold only 3.2% of senior leadership roles at major companies. Less than 1% are CEOs.

Based in Canada, the DI is a clear example of a place where research meets practice. The DI is a hub to erode the complex barriers faced by underrepresented groups in the economic ecosystem. It does so by combining its research on the labor market experience for racialized individuals with a series of entrepreneurship programs that support its overall goal of achieving economic inclusion and success.
